Heard of Piégut-Pluviers and Cussac?

What this means to us based in this stunning area is that we live in, work in and have unlimited (and free!) access to a beautiful countryside littered with lakes, woodland, pretty villages and impressive chateaux and churches. This area is popular but out of the way of the hurly-burly you find further south; you can walk, cycle, ride and drive for miles without meeting anyone but never be too far from civilisation by way of a shop, baker or bar.

There are many events held in the Park throughout the year including courses on bee-keeping, bird watching, song and dance and astronomy; festivals and fêtes, nocturnal torch-lit castle visits, open air cinemas and, for the more energetic, organised walks, cycle rides, horse rides and tree climbing.

Piégut (say Pee-ay-goo not Pie-Gut!) has a popular market every Wednesday morning offering everything from locally produced fruit and vegetable to beds and lawnmowers. It is a meeting point for many locals and visitors and many different languages can be heard as you browse the stalls and chat to the stall holders.

Cussac, just 35 minutes from Limoges airport has a rich history dating back to néolithic times, but in more recent times is known for its involvement with the French Résistance in the Second World War. Resistance fighters and teenagers destined to be transported to Germany to work in the factories there were hidden in the Forests of Boubon and Gaboureau and some of the ‘trous des marquis’ (hideouts) still exist and have been recreated to show how they lived during those times.

It may be an area not as well known as some but it is a beautiful, relaxing and very friendly area with beautiful, affordable properties. Come and see for yourself!
